Massive specimen smashes records after being landed by high-profile carper.
One of the biggest carp in the UK has been banked setting a new venue and county record.
Caught from Shropshire syndicate water The Avenue, the fish weighed in at a staggering 57lb 8oz following its capture by Avid Carp backed ace Ian Russell.
Known as Jonah, the monstrous mirror weight is a new best for the famous carp venue, as well as setting a new Shropshire record.
The dream capture actually came during filming for a new Avid Carp DVD and followed Ian catching a 37 and a 22 from the same swim at the 10acre water.
Ian fished The Point swim on the lake, targeting a gravel bar at 70yards. Over this he fished two rods both with double Sonubait Code Red pop-ups tipped with Avid Carp maggot stops, a combo that the 22lb fish fell for within 10minutes.
Spodding out a mix of Sonubaits S Pellets, Code Red 12mm boilies and maggots over the spot and adding PVA bags to his rigs Ian settled in for the night, which yielded the 33lb mirror known as little Rhino at 5am. But it was just as the sun started to show that the most important bite of the session came.
As his right hand bobbin rose to the rod, Ian struck into what felt like a very good fish. A deep, solid fight followed before Ian got the huge specimen in the net to bank what is believed to be the second biggest carp in the country.
“As far as we are aware, this is the largest ever fish to be caught on a free, promotional DVD,” said a spokesperson for Avid Carp. “All the action will be on the 2012 Avid Carpers DVD due for release later this summer and will be available for from all good Avid Carp stockists. If you want to see one of the largest carp in the land on film, make sure you look out for the next Avid Carpers DVD. It’s going to be epic!”
