Big common come to the bank to set new best for Northamptonshire venue.
This beautiful common has set a new venue record for Northamptonshire’s Stanwick Lakes Fisheries complex with a weight of 43lb 2oz.
Known as The Colonel, the stunning specimen was banked by carper Mick Poole to take to title after it fell for a chod rig during a three-night session on the water.
Stocked into the venue near Kettering some eight years ago, the fish broke the previous record of 41lb, held by another common, and it’s hoped that the common will go onto bigger things though, as co-owner of Stanwick Lakes Fisheries Phil Dunn explains.
“This fish was stocked at around 20 about eight years ago so it’s already more than doubled its weight,” said Phil. “It was one of a batch of other fish which have all done very well, with one topping 40 and another hitting 39lb. I still think there’s plenty of growing left to do as well, so who knows what size The Colonel will get to.” For more details on fishing Stanwick Lakes Fisheries, click here
