New Nanofil from Berkley isn't a braid and it isn't a mono - but it is set to take the UK by storm.

A revolution in fishing line has been launched at this year’s Tackle & Guns show, in the form of Nanofil from Berkley.

Half way between a braid and a mono line, Nanofil uses a special technique where hundreds of nano filaments (hence the name) of gel spun polyethylene are bonded together to deliver high breaking strains at unbelievably low diameters.

For example a 25lb break strain length of Nanofil measures just 0.20mm, while going as low as 3lb breaking strain and the diameter is a poultry 0.02mm.

As well as giving these low diameters, the bonding process that creates the new line also delivers the benefits of high abrasion resistance as well as a low drag co-efficient aiding casting.

“I’ve been using this line since March and it’s superb,” Mike Thrussell of Pure Fishing, the umbrella company in charge of Berkley. “It has very low memory and it casts like a dream. There’s also the added bonus of high knot strength as with the slippery surface on the line that comes form the bonding process when a knot it tied it does damage the line as with normal monos. It’s also semi translucent so looks great in the water.”

Nanofil launches in the UK asap. Prices will be more than that of braid, however the manufacturer has revealed that the line should outlast most braids.
