Rich says: These could well be my new favourite choice for use with my Jon Mac rig. There’s a good reason for this – they have a super-wide gape and relatively short, beaked point. I like using beaked hooks but sometimes worry that the small reduction in gape could cost me pick-ups. That’s eliminated by the gape on these babies. Just like the other hinge-rig variants, the JM rig is one that looks like it’s going to reach out and grab a carp as it swims by and I just can’t see how having that extra hooking gape can do any harm. They’re indisputably sharp and strong; so what more could you ask? They look like they’ll bury right up to the bend, leaving the very short shank exposed. This offers very little leverage during a fight, which is perfect. I haven’t tried them for floater fishing or zigging but they look just the job. If you’re short on confidence in your hooks, try these.
