Tested: Daiwa Infinity DF Rod - 12/07/2010

Rich says: These rods truly are in the ‘Rolls-Royce’ category. I’d long admired the Daiwa rod empire without actually owning a set. So, as soon as I could, I got hold of a set of the new DFs. There are a couple of reasons why you won’t be disappointed with these sticks. Firstly, they have every ounce of Daiwa’s huge rod-building pedigree behind them and, secondly, they were modified by Korda boss Danny Fairbrass to fit his exacting standards.

Okay, so what’s under the carefully sculpted looks? Well, the set that I’ve been using is the ‘big beast’ of the range, the 12ft 3.75lb version. Technically, it’s awesome. The tip recovery is out of this world, which makes the biggest chucks seem a lot more manageable (even for a modest caster like me).

This next bit might seem like the usual hyperbole associated with a new rod release but they really do have a forgiving tip as well as monstrous casting prowess. That extra stiffness really does help you to be more accurate as well, something that I try to prioritise. Again, I’m not going to talk about how this rigid spine of the rod is achieved, just suffice it to say that it’s there and it helps you chuck long and straight, just like Danny!
