The Skarp S60 Bait Boat - 12/10/2009
I have to start by saying that I haven’t used bait boats a great deal in the past, purely because I prefer to cast out my rig the old fashioned way.
When the Skarp arrived in the ACF office my first impression of it was good. It was large, but not prohibitively heavy, and looked well built. The first time I used the Skarp the conditions were rough, but the boat motored across the lake effortlessly. The S60 boasts a range of between 400 and 600 metres, which is more than enough for any angler.
With two independent hoppers it allows you to drop two hook baits, thereby maximising battery life. Both of the propellers are protected by strong weed guards, which are essential if you’re fishing a water that has top-to-bottom weed. Even with my limited experience, I know that it can be a nightmare taking your bait back out at night. The first time I used the boat in the dark I found the lights to be easily visible at 100-yards range. If you take the boat out of range it will actually turn itself around and head towards the bank until it receives a signal again. I didn’t actually take the boat to its maximum range but I think it’s a brilliant idea. The boat even comes with a two-year warranty and is supplied in its own custom bag.
Overall, the Skarp is a great piece of kit and if you’re on the lookout for a new boat it’s well worth a look. The boat retails at £699 but Skarp currently has the boat on offer for £525.
