Fox NXTr Alarms - 12/10/2009
I’ve been using the Fox Micron RX Digital alarms for years. They’re somewhat old now, but they perform brilliantly.
That’s why the launch of these new Microns pricked my interest. The new model, the NXTr looks not dissimilar to the RX, even down to the chunky receiver. In terms of technology, the alarms are worlds apart. Make no mistake, the new models are as advanced as any alarm has ever been – period. There are literally dozens of features but, rather than simply listing them all, I’ll give you an idea of what they’re like to actually use! I took them out for an overnighter and found them to be easy to use, which isn’t a forgone conclusion given the overwhelming array of features. Little touches like nite lights that come on automatically as it gets dark, and LEDs that change colour at the flick of a switch, made the experience a positive one. A browse through the manual should help you become accustomed to the features that aren’t immediately apparent. I really don’t like to have my alarm heads turned up loud if I can help it, so the opportunity to have them running silently with the receiver tucked away inside the bivvy was a welcome one.
Although I haven’t had long to test the NXTrs, I fully expect them to perform in the long term, just as my RXs have. The looks might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I have to admit that they grew on me, especially when coupled with all the useful little features that Fox has crammed into each head. Okay, they aren’t cheap, but top-of-the-range alarms have never been cheap, nor should they be – we’re paying for the years of research and development that have gone into them.
