Sufix Kameleon Skin - 12/10/2009

I like the versatility that a coated braid offers, and they suit me perfectly for bottom-bait fishing, which makes up the majority of my angling.

Kameleon Skin from Sufix is a bit different from most on the market because it features a very distinct camou pattern. This pattern is repeated on the braid inner as well as the outer skin and is completely colourfast, so won’t fade. There are three colours: Black, Weed Green and Gravel Brown, with each section being approximately four inches long. When you drop it in the margins for a look, this really helps to break up the straight line of the hook link and ensures that it blends into the lake bed, especially when using longer lengths. The dull outer coating is very easy to strip and knots without breaking, as some coated braids are prone to do. It is also possible to straighten it without steaming; simply running it between your fingers a few times will do the job.

The inner braid is tightly woven and robust yet still soft and supple. I have been using the 15lb version and have had no issues with abrasion resistance. It really is tough gear and I have banked a couple of thirties in very weedy situations using it, as well as some rather large barbel. As it’s a neutral buoyancy material, I always add a couple of blobs of putty to ensure that it’s pinned to the lake bed. This is a fantastically versatile coated braid and well worth checking out.
