The best person to tell you why you should use this bait is the man himself, Terry Hearn. Here’s the shortened story of the development of his new bait. So, why did Terry choose banana? “Banana is an old classic that I’d done well with as a youngster fishing the ponds at Bushy Park, but in recent times I’d not seen or heard of anybody using it. Rolling the stuff took me back all those years and I’d already made my mind up to take it on my next carp fishing outing to the River Thames.”

Pretty soon, Terry was given extra freedom to tweak the bait further. “Even more of the tiger-nut meal was added and a flavour level that I was happiest with was soon settled upon, even for those times when I’d be using the bait in large quantities. The sweetener was dropped and the tiger-nut juice was increased, resulting in a natural sweetness as opposed to a bitter, artificial sweetness.” He and friend Dave Swinchatt took it out onto the Thames, where their autumn campaign was based. Initially, they mixed it with Red Fish and Chocolate Malt, two of Dynamite’s other winners; that soon changed, though.

“As our confidence in the new Banana boilies grew, so it began to make up the bulk of our feed, and that turned out to be a serious amount of bait on the river. Most days would see 7kg to 10kg of boilies introduced to the spots. By regularly baiting and fishing short sessions with one rod each off the back of the boat, we managed 67 takes in a hectic three-week period, landing more than 50 hard-fighting Thames carp, and they all came to the Banana.” So, where does it rate among Terry’s favourite Dynamite baits?
